‘Everyman is my superior in some way, in that, I learn from him’
Ralph Waldo Emerson
This series depicts swimmers with aspirations of qualification for the Olympic Games. Each of the people in this series demonstrates the qualities of a role model. True leadership is about inspiration, being able to articulate a vision, believing in that vision and being willing to make a sacrifice for that vision in order to unite others around it. These images offer examples of people who have taken these values to heart, knowingly or not. Individuals, who have dedicated their lives to pushing the limits of their abilities and in turn taking the first steps of becoming true inspiration to others.
These images celebrate the extraordinary people who achieve great things, those that continue to push themselves everyday towards their ever evolving goals. We too must approach new tests objectively and listen to the lessons of each decision that we make in order to progress towards our goals. More often than not we seem to be confusing loudness for leadership. You can see fresh, in-your-face celebrities behaving outrageously in order to create a shallow attempt at entertainment for the youth. A role model is a person looked to by others as an example to be imitated.
